The British newspaper’s first destination is Cilento, one of Campania’s most beautiful regions, largely covered by the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, Italy’s second-largest park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The area boasts 100 km of coastline and a wild, mountainous hinterland dotted with historic villages still rooted in a traditional way of life.

Until now, foreign visitors have preferred to head further north to the beautiful, but often crowded and expensive, Amalfi Coast. But now things are changing: “Google searches in the UK for the Cilento coast have increased by 110% in the last 12 months,” according to the Guardian article, which suggests discovering Cilento on a walking or cycling holiday.

The Via Silente is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Italy, running for 600 km through the Cilento National Park, starting from the village of Castelnuovo Cilento, following coastal stretches and entering the mountains.
